Is OwAI free?
Yes. Local browsing, organization, local AI models, people, collections, groups, and duplicate management are free and do not require an account.
What does Cloud Access include?
Cloud Access is a one-time purchase that unlocks cloud index synchronization, cross-device search, hosted inference, local and hosted MCP, and agent library management. Indexing, search, and reimagine operations use prepaid credits.
Are my photos or videos stored in the cloud?
The OwAI cloud index stores metadata and embeddings, not original media. Connected OneDrive originals stay in OneDrive. Optional desktop caches are local; OwAI is not another cloud media backup.
What is sent for hosted inference?
When you select hosted inference, resized images or selected video frames are transmitted for processing and are not persisted. You can instead download local models and keep inference on your device.
What happens when another device is offline?
Local folders: The index stores metadata and embeddings, not a media backup. Offline results reflect the last sync. Optional remote previews separately require an online owner and Remote media access enabled; it is off by default. For OneDrive, previews and library edits use the connected cloud account without needing the desktop online or its media relay.
When are credits charged?
One indexing credit covers up to 10 new images or one new video. One search credit covers one semantic or similarity search. Exact metadata filters and library-management commands are free. Failed operations and duplicate retries are not charged.
Do credits expire?
No. Indexing, search, and reimagine credits remain in your account until used. Larger packs receive volume discounts.
Can an agent delete my files?
Local folders: Yes, but an agent must first preview the exact files and get your approval before applying the deletion plan. Updated desktop builds keep removed files in recovery for 30 days before permanent cleanup; this does not immediately free disk space. Remote changes wait for the owning app to complete them. OneDrive: Small thumbnails are cached; desktop videos download to a playback cache. Offline access is limited to cached media. Approved deletions use OneDrive’s recycle bin, not OwAI’s 30-day recovery. Removing a source never deletes its OneDrive files.
How do I connect OneDrive to OwAI?
In OwAI, connect your account, open OneDrive and sign in to Microsoft. Add a folder with its subfolders. Indexing and face detection follow App Settings. Collections, groups and labels sync through OwAI; originals stay in OneDrive.
